Intramedullary Cavitation Album -- Photo #12

ŠThe Maxillofacial Center for Diagnostics & Research

"Moist Rot" of Osteonecrosis, Ischemic Osteosclerosis, Cavitation

This cadaver mandible (molar region) has a cavitation, to the right, with semi-tough "leathery" walls.  Entire remaining marrow is necrosed and partially fibrosed from chemotherapy during the terminal stage of the patient's life.  An irregular whitish area of ischemic osteonecrosis or bone scar is seen centrally.
