Subcortical dry rot of old ischemic osteonecrosis (first molar region; 71 y/o male). Intersecting denuded bony trabeculae are surrounded by "air" in the subcortical region just above the inferior mandibular border.  A slight brownish discoloration toward the right indicates area of bone marrow edema.  Scattered white specks represent mild ischemic osteosclerosis, artifactually enhanced by tissue processing techniques.
