Chronic ischemic marrow shows slow replacement of fat cells by fibrous tissue.
In early stages the loose fibrosis is seen to stream around the fat cells, often with
a sprinkling of lymphocytes in small numbers. Marrow capillaries here are only
slightly dilated, but the diagnosis here is bone marrow edema.
