Figure 34: Long-term ischemia eventually results in more and more replacement of fat cells by fibrous tissue, which becomes more dense with time.  Scattered chronic inflammatory cells are often present, as they are here.  Dense fibrosis can also result from ischemia-caused poor healing of an extraction site after surgery.
