Figure 19: Technitium-99 MDP scintigraphy scan shows a black "hot spot" of increased uptake in an area of maxillofacial osteonecrosis (no pain in this case).  This isotope is attracked to areas of bone healing or destruction, as it attaches to new or damaged, i.e. exposed, apatite crystals.
